5 Tips for Successful Kids Photos & Giveaway

I am one of those moms who loves to take photos of her kids. Basically, hello guys I am a camera mama. I have always loved to take pictures and photograph everything. Since Zoey was born I began to take her in for professional pictures. Of course this was years ago when it was less common to do more natural shoots. So most of Zoey’s pictures are studio photos & I am never in them. My good friend and photographer Tiffany from Tiffany.annephotography has become our official family photographer. I ventured into the world of more outdoor and slightly more natural pictures rather than the studio ones. It’s a matter of preference I believe. It all began with our maternity pictures and now we are in the process of booking Lia’s first birthday pictures (excuse me while I try not to break into tears). Tiffany specializes in family, maternity, newborn, and special events. Basically very family oriented. Of course taking pictures is easier said than done. Follow my tips and it could just make it a little easier.

1.Share information a bit about your family

Talk to your photographer and share some information on those taking the pictures. Knowing you and your kids will make it easier for them to capture your families essence. I had known her for a long time and after first shoot together the rest were a breeze. She knew what we were like and how to make the girls comfortable. Even Pappa Bear looks forward to being a model for the day.

2.Find a location

It seems like Tiffany is always scouting different locations. Whether it be a cool wall, a huge unique door, beautiful streets, or scenic parks, she has something to fit each style. The park she found for our maternity pictures was so unique and offered us so many different options. Our newborn session was done at home and came out amazing. Our last session was Lia’s 6 month pictures and those were at a park I found. Work with your photographer on finding the perfect location to fit your style

3.Less is more

Picking what to wear was always a challenge. What I have learned is less is more when it comes to prints and patterns. Tiffany’s tip is to wear solids or very subtle patterns. You don’t want a pattern that will stand out so much it will take away from everything else. I recommend checking out The Baby Bird Boutique’s solid rompers, peplums, and dresses. She just expanded her solid line to include brights, lights, and fall colors. You have so many options on how to wear them. If you have more than one little girl you can get one of each and make it fun to match but still unique. She also carries many different prints to choose from & is a wizard at pattern mixing. Click here to shop solids & use my code: BEARBIRD to save 15% off your order. Not only are they cute they are very comfortable. I don’t know about your kids, but if mine aren’t comfortable they will NOT cooperate at all! No outfit is complete without a cute and unique bow. I love to pair their outfits with a cute bow or headband. My go to for hair pieces is Gorgeousbyv.v . She has beautiful products at affordable prices. Best of all she can make custom orders to fit exactly what you want. You can use code: ZOEY10 to save! I have a cool giveaway at the end 😉

4.Make sure your little ones are fed and napped

Making sure your kiddos are well rested is Tiffany’s first tip…but I have an order of events going so here it is. You know those meltdowns kids tend to have when they are tired? Well they WILL have it when you are about to start or even mid-way. Schedule your photo session around your child’s schedule to make sure they are happy and cooperative. Bring along snacks to help encourage cooperation. I was advised to scatter

4.Get to your location early

I suggest arriving between 15-30 minutes before your session. Your photographer will probably already be there. Chat a bit and discuss your plan for a successful session. Let your kids get comfortable in their environment. This extra time will also give you enough time for snacks or diaper changes.

5.Be prepared to entertain

If you are in the pictures bring an extra person who can call your kids to make them look the right way. Some of best pictures of the girls are thanks to whoever is behind the person with the camera. You know the person who make silly faces and noises until they smiled or laughed? Whether that be you or someone else be prepared to entertain.

Remember to relax and have fun. You would be surprised how much easier it is when you just relax. If they cry or are upset comfort them and make it a fun experience for them. I have an awesome opportunity for all my SoCal Mamma Bears and Pappa Bears! I love taking pictures so much and want you to have some special photos of your own. I have partnered up with Tiffany.annephotography , The Baby Bird Boutique, and Gorgeousbyv.v for a great giveaway! We haven’t had a family photo taken in awhile but I do take plenty of us individually. My young ones are not as young but you have definitely provided good tips for new moms.

I love these tips! Especially less is more for the outfit! We JUST had toddler pictures done on my parents farm and it was so great to have him in a location where he was comfortable and our photographer was able to tell all about our family and my son by the pics!

Awesome tips. We recently did a photo shoot with the kids and I embraced the same strategies. We go there early, with tons of snacks, and rocked the solids

Great tips! I have such a hard time getting brood of 3 to all make decent faces for any sort of group picture. They usually end up terrible, but hopefully when they are older they will at least be kind of funny. 🙂 I need to find a photographer to try for some more “natural” shots, I really like those. Great post!

These are such great tips! We did a session with my daughter when she was only a few months old and all I remember is a blur of crying, fussing and getting peed on!

When I see your pictures, it makes me want to take more of my kid. I’m not sure I have the patience. How long does a photo shoot take?

You know we usually take about an hour. It isn’t continuous and we move around. the best thing about these more lifestyle photos is that its all about being natural.

I love these tips. I have never tried professional pictures due to my girls getting ornery during my picture taking of them sometimes. These tips might help us. Thank you!
