In the words of Rihanna “Please Don’t Stop The Music”! One of the MOST important parts of any celebration is the music. It can make or break a party, trust me! Finding a DJ for your wedding is not as easy as asking that one cousin of yours to do it. Again, trust me! The coordinators at my venue explained to me the importance of having an experienced and professional DJ. The DJ at your wedding is not there just to play music, they help your wedding flow! They help keep your celebration on time in order to get through all the formal stuff and get to the DANCING !!! So again, trust me when I say finding the right person for this job should be a priority on your wedding to-do list. We were so happy to have found 1024 Events & Productions (I will now refer to them as 1024) to help us bring our party to life! I was able to set up a call with them right away and had all my questions answered and then some! So, what should you ask? What should you look for? I have compiled a list of questions you should ask when making calls and setting up meetings.
1.What packages do you offer?
First get the package details, and I don’t mean price. Find out how many hours and staff their packages include as well as the cost of extending services as well. This is a good time to figure out whether you want music during your ceremony and your cocktail hour. If your company offers other services such as lighting or perhaps a photo booth like ours does this is a great way to bundle services saving you time and money!
We were so happy to learn that 1024 would be there for the duration of my event, start to finish. This gives us great options for music during the ceremony and making sure our guests are entertained during the cocktail hour as well. We also added their photo booth to our package! I love a fun photo booth…I will get you all those details in another post-because a photo booth deserves it’s own post!
2.How do we choose songs?
I was mind blown to see all the planning and details that revolve around music and timing. Finding out whether you can email a list or write down a list is very important. You want to make sure you have your important dances figured out as well as a list of must plays and don’t plays!
Talk about ease and time saving! 1024 uses a personalized portal in which you can choose the songs and add to a virtual play list. You are given login information and all you do is login and voila! It makes it so easy. You are able to listen to tidbits of a song if you aren’t sure about it and can easily add or delete options as well as search for song recommendations! This portal includes all your wedding date information. There are even lists with the top songs by decade, by genre, by occasion (first dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance, etc.)
3.Can we create our wedding timeline?
Find out whether you are able to choose the order of dances and events. Some couples choose to have wedding games in addition to your traditional dances and formal events. Your DJ can help with the development of the length and order of each event. Ex: What order to do dances, when to toss the bouquet/garter, cake cutting ceremony, etc.
Mike from 1024 explained how through the portal we are able to outline what we want. However, remember they are the experts. We may think things flow well one way but be open to their suggestions. I like to remember they are experience professionals and to trust their suggestions.
4.When do our choices need to be finalized?
I don’t know about you-but I want to have everything finalized as early as I can. Remember, it isn’t just choosing music- it’s about creating a time line. Your choices and order in part are developing the way your wedding will flow. Having your choices and a draft of your wedding timeline ahead of time gives you the ability to make minor changes and have a clear picture of what your special day will look like.
I am a very type A person. I love lists and feeling prepared. Knowing that 4-5 weeks prior 1024 will give me a timeline of my day makes me feel so calm. Although I have been told not to expect perfection, I like the piece of mind I get from at least having a skeleton of my day.
5.When is our the total due?
VERY! VERY! I will say this again-VERY important! Make sure you have taken care of all your payments prior to the wedding. Find out when your deposit is due as well as the date you need to pay our balance. This is a good time to find out their forms of accepted payment. This is also a great time to find out what their cancellation policy is as well.
1024 makes it so easy by allowing you to make payments online through your portal on their website. You are able to pay with credit card or via PayPal! Such a breeze!
Above all the questions you ask figure out the “vibe” you get from them. Is this person someone you can work with? I felt very comfortable while having this conversation with Mike from 1024 Events & Productions. He was very confident and provided me the information I needed to make our decision. As a couple, we have a very relaxed, casual, yet professional demeanor and 1024 fit it perfectly. The conversation with Mike was very easy going I immediately felt that sense of comfort and trust. With every part of our wedding we are seeking for that feeling. It gives us the reassurance that we have found people who will make our day smooth.
