Wedding planning in general has been so much fun. BUT! Wedding dress shopping was just amazing! Trying on dresses and feeling like a princess-yes please! You may have gone wedding dress shopping with a friend or family member, but when you shop for your own it’s a whole different story. Let me help you out with this list of do’s and don’ts for wedding dress shopping.

Wedding dress shopping is an exciting part of wedding planning. This list of do's and don'ts will help you prepare for this fun filled day! Wedding, wedding planning, wedding dress, ballgown, mermaid gown, trumpet tail, a line dress, wedding gown, gowns, wedding dresses, bride, bride to be, brides, necklines, shopping tips

Do Eat

Make sure to have your stomach full and something in your body when you take on this task. Although tons of fun, it is also very exhausting. You don’t want to catch yourself in a bad mood because you are hungry. We want as clear judgment as possible here ladies.

Do Bring Snacks

Like I said, it is exhausting. Pack some snacks for yourself and whoever else is joining you. This will help you all have some energy throughout the day if you don’t have time for a lunch break.

Do Make Appointments

Most bridal shops require appointments to be made, specially on the weekend. This will guarantee they will have a consultant just for you and save a dressing room, etc. I made 2 appointments in one day. Give yourself about 2 hours at each place.

Do You Hair & MakeUp

I don’t mean go full on bridal. But! I recommend putting on some very light make up and doing something with your hair. It will help you get a better idea of what you will look like. I put on a small amount of blush and mascara. Remember you are trying on beautiful and light colored gowns, you don’t want to leave any make up marks on them.

Do Mind Your Undergarments

This includes bras and panties. Wearing a convertible bra will help with trying on different styles. Remember, there is a bridal consultant helping you in and out of the gowns, so wear whatever you feel comfortable with someone else seeing. I recommend bringing a few different types of undergarments to try on with the different dresses

Do Your Research

There are so many different styles of dresses, do some research on the names. You can choose from different necklines to different styles of the actual dress. This can save you time when you go to your appointments by giving you an idea of styles you absolutely don’t want to try and those that you feel you have to.

Do Have An Open Mind

I can honestly say the dress I fell in love with is not like anything I thought I would love. I came in with an idea of things I did not want but with intentions of trying all the styles. It is so different to see a dress in pictures and try it on yourself. I say try them all! You might be surprised with which one you go for.

Don’t Go In Without a Budget

You walk into a room with beautiful wedding gowns with all sorts of prices. Keep your budget in mind. Tell your consultant what that budget is, they will help you find something you love without stepping outside of your budget.

Don’t Bring 2,039,834 People

I know you want to have all your bridesmaids and family with you to try on gowns, but don’t. You want to have a few people who will give you genuine opinions on a dress. I had the moms, my matron of honor, and Zoey. I knew they would be able to balance out each other’s opinions and with my matron of honor she would be able to step in if I needed backup hahah. Fortunately it was such a fun time and we all agreed to what we did NOT love and what we did. Safe to say we all thought my dress was the one, we cried to say the least.

Don’t Forget To Check On Alterations

When buying your dress keep in mind the alterations that would need to be made along with the pricing of alterations. Ask if they have someone who alters their dresses or if they have any recommendations.

Don’t Feel Discouraged

You may not find a dress right away, or maybe you will. Do not feel discouraged. I found my dress at my first appointment yet still went to the second just in case. Turns out looking at too many dresses made it harder. I realized no dress had given me that feeling I returned for it right after.

Do Have Fun

Wedding dress shopping should be a fun experience. Enjoy it! I loved twirling around in these gowns and feeling like a princess. It was a perfect day!
