With all wedding planning there is always a struggle between what you love and pleasing your guests. Choosing your menu is no exception. This past weekend we had our menu tasting and here are our tips to make it fun and stress-free!
1.Ask options available
At our initial meeting at Lorimar Winery we asked about the food options they had. With an in-house chef our options were pretty much unlimited! We are able to theme out our menu such as italian night, BBQ style, etc. If you have a theme you want to stay within or perhaps a favorite dish you want to have- ask if it’s available.
2.Ask for a sample menu
Our coordinator at Lorimar Winery gave us a sample menu ahead of time so we were able to get some ideas of what we could taste. The sample menu included everything from appetizers to main courses and side dishes. This gave us a good idea of how we could pair the main dishes as well. We loved the sample menu items and decided to go with foods on it.

3.Eat before your tasting
Although it might seem harmless to go on an empty stomach- don’t! You don’t want hunger to cloud your judgement. You also want to remember it is a tasting with tons of different options so have small bites of everything. Enough to taste but not to get full and not be able to try everything. We had to constantly remind ourselves there was more to try because lets face it was all too delicious not to finish. haha!
Lorimar provided us with a sheet we were able to write down notes and our choices. It was super helpful to write down details on the food we were tasting as well as our thoughts on what we were eating as well. We spoke to their chef on some alternative such as switching pork egg rolls for vegetable ones to accommodate those who do not eat meat.
It is not just the blogger in me that wants to take pictures. It was super helpful to look back later and remember exactly what we tried. We are after-all visual people. Let’s face is the esthetics is also an important part of your decision making.

6.Know your guests
Know how many guests you are having; how many children, how many adults. It’s also good to know your audience as far as their likes and age groups. Although it is our wedding and we are making decisions based on what we like we also want to take into account foods that would be crowd pleasers.
Overall the experience was a lot of fun. We were able to make our decisions that same day, we had obvious favorites. The key is always balance. Find a way to have something others will love without sacrificing the details you and your fiancé want to have. After our big day we will share with you all the details including our menu choices.
