Let’s talk about wedding cakes today! Yes, they are gorgeous. Yes, they are delicious. Yes, there are tons of styles and designs to choose from. And, yes, it can be hard to find the right one. Today I am going to share some of the talented Laura Marie’s Cakes beautiful and absolutely mouthwatering cakes along with some tips to choosing yours.
Laura designs each cake as uniquely as her couples. I can honestly say no cake is ever the same and the amount of work she puts in is visible each and every single time. She said so herself “No one touches your cake except for me”. Her cakes are made from scratch including her extracts (talk about commitment) and all her ingredients are locally grown. So yes-they are incredibly fresh.
Along with having a tasty cake, for a wedding there is extreme focus on the design of the cake as well. But where do you start and how do you choose? Here are a few tips I used to finding our design.
1.Set on a general wedding theme/feel
If you don’t have a particular theme for your wedding it’s okay. Think of your colors and venue to guide you with styles that go with your wedding. For us, our wedding is rustic and minimalist so we wanted our cake to mimic our wedding style. We loved the idea of a semi-naked cake too!
2.Figure out the size of your wedding cake
Laura helped us figure this part out. Your baker will know what size works best to fit the number of guests at your wedding. Our wedding is fairly small so we are having a 3 tiered cake. Once you figure that out then you can search for ideas based on the size of your cake.
3.Check your baker’s social media for cake ideas
I love scrolling through Laura’s instagram. Not only does she post a picture of all her couples, she is always sharing Insta-stories or posts with her latest designs. Each as beautiful as the one before.
4.Check Pinterest for ideas!
Of course how can I leave out Pinterest. It is a wonderful source for inspiration for just about everything. I spent a lot of time searching up different styles of semi-naked cakes until I found something that felt like it would be OUR cake.
Wedding cakes became a tradition as a symbol of unity. The tradition to cut the cake together and feed each other symbolizes the couple always there to provide for one another. It is also said to symbolize fortune and fertility and bringing everyone who eats it good luck. Above beauty and taste your cake should be something that makes you both happy. Continue to keep that joy in all your wedding details and planning. I would love to know what your favorite wedding cake style is in the comments below.
These are such great tips! We just did a small cake for my husband and I and cupcakes for every one else. We eloped and had a small reception. I wish I had seen some of these cakes before we made our choices! Stunning.
she is absolutely talented
These are such great tips! I wish I had more of a cake at my wedding. Unfortunately, my husband really wanted cupcakes which was like one of the very few things he really wanted so I couldn’t take that away from him lol. But I really wanted a semi naked cake with flowers and greens all over it. Maybe for an anniversary cake lol. These are great tips though, so important to think about all these things when choosing a cake!
yes i totally agree with letting him have something he liked! thats how I am too when he asks for something I just do lol
I will put this to good use for my anniversary celebrations 🙂 Great pics and ideas.
aw congrats!
Great advice and tips!! The cake is an essential part of the day!
i had no idea how important it really is
So pretty. I will be getting married soon and hadn’t thought much about the cake. I’ll start a Pinterest board. Great idea.
Very pretty. I will be getting married soon and I had not really thought much about the cake. I will set up a Pinterest board.
its a ton of fun to get ideas
OMGOODNESS….all of these cakes are so beautiful. I went with a chic, shiny, smooth pearly sheen looking cake (if that makes any sense) with beads around each layer and flower petals on each layer too. It was so pretty BUT all of these cakes are so gorgeous. It’s a tough decision.
We actually didn’t have a wedding cake believe it or not. I think for our 20 year anniversary, we will get a big one like this.
we contemplated between a cake or cupcakes and settled on the cake. that sounds like a great plan
Checking local bakers pages is such a good idea! You might find something you love but seeing something theyve done before is even better!
yes totally gives you an idea of what they can create too
These are so pretty! We did a small cake for the cake cutting and then had sheet cakes of the same flavor pre-cut so the caterers could get out to guests quickly.
what a great idea!
These are such great tips! I loved our wedding cake. It was simple and a little traditional and so good!
Yes ours is going to be like yours! we wanted something simple but delicious
I love the one that looks like stained glass. It is so original and pretty.
yes totally the designs are so unique
Somehow I missed this wonderful blog! You’re so sweet for writing such a great piece and I’m so grateful! Big hugs!’ 💗💗💗
Thank you Laura! You are as wonderful of a person as you are talented! We love being one of your couples!
Thank you for pointing out that you need to talk to the baker you choose about the number of guests you’re having. My fiance and I are wanting to make sure we choose the best cake for our reception. I’ll have to do some research and find the best baker in our area.
Enjoy your time wedding planning! It flies by!
