Hello my name is Karen and I am a bookaholic. “Hi Karen.” As much as it made me giggle to type that, it’s 1000% true! For as long as I can remember reading has been my favorite past time. My mom can tell you stories of all the time she actually got mad that I read too fast haha! Not that she didn’t appreciate it me reading, but it just meant way more trips to buy books. For me, reading, has been a way to learn, to explore, and to experience different; eras, countries, and even worlds. My best friend and I, we clicked because we loved the same books, we still do!

#ad The benefits of reading range from physical to mental positivity. To help encourage this love for reading Kellogg & Scholastic have a great offer! For a reading fanatic like myself I have instilled the importance of reading in my kids. The benefits of reading in my eyes are many, but here are a few of my favorites plus a way to earn free books for this back to school season during your next Target run:

1.Bonding with my kids

During story time we put our phones away and leave out all our worries behind. Whether it be a bed time story or Lia just asking for a book, we put everything to the side and enjoy our time together. If you did nothing but read to Lia all day she would be as happy as a clam!

2.Favorite way to unwind

Since I became a mother a bed time story has always been a must! It is our way to unwind and escape into a fun place away from screens and life. We don’t always read just one story either, there are nights they choose 2 or 3 and there are times we read the same one a few times (blame the toddler for that). Just like we do with our kids, you can find a book for mamma to read and unwind too!

3.Developing their imagination

Whether it is my toddler, my school-aged child, or myself-our stories take us to places we may have never been before. In my opinion, there is no better way to let your imagination grow than by reading.

4.Developmental growth

From a parents perspective, I truly value the way reading helps my child develop. Do not underestimate the power of reading to your babies from the time they are in your womb until the time they are packing away for college. Reading to your children and teaching them to read develops their language skills, analytical thinking skills, written expression, etc. You get the picture-reading is GOOD!

So how do I encourage my kids to sit down with a good book? With some delicious snacks by their side. For a family of bookworms, snacks are the cherry on top to a good story! Well, Kellogg and Scholastic have found a way to mix both! Kellogg and Scholastic are giving away a free book with the purchase of back to school promotional products. Grow your child’s book collection, or be the hero at your child’s school!
