Hello Friends,

Let’s talk about staying healthy during pregnancy. Of course it is something we all want to do but sometimes with busy lifestyles it feels like the impossible. With Zoey I had a smooth pregnancy, with Lia I developed Gestational Diabetes, and with the twins I am at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes AND preeclampsia. But did you know that there are ways to keep healthy and reduce the risks of developing these conditions during pregnancy? YES! And I’m going to share them with you because a healthy pregnancy is a healthy you..

1.Get Plenty of Rest

Seems obvious, but I can guarantee it is the hardest of these steps to do. It is especially difficult if you have a busy on-the-go lifestyle. Whether you are a stay-at-home-mom, a work-at-home-mom, or a working mom you have your own challenges making it difficult to just drop what you need to do and put your feet up. BUT- it is SO important to do so. Being pregnant with twins has definitely taught me the importance of getting rest and elevating my feet. Don’t be afraid to pop on a movie and cuddle with your little ones or bring a stool under your desk to keep your feet up.

2.Drink Water

Did you know that drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day helps lower your risk of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. For me drinking water throughout my day and with my meals has become second nature. It is a healthier lifestyle choice for myself, for my unborn babies, and for the rest of my family as well.

In our home we make sure to have water stocked up at all times. We do so by making sure our Primo® First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser has a full Primo water 5 gallon water bottle (sold separately…also available in a 3 gallon water bottle). I love how easy it is to have clean water in our home, all we do is refill our 5 gallon water bottles at our Primo Water stand at our local retailer (place holder for store locator) bring it home and load it into our Primo First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser. (Because it’s a bottom loader- all you do is simply slide it into the cabinet, and you’re good to go!) You can choose to refill at their water stations or do the Primo Water exchange and bring your empty bottle to simply swap out for a full one.

For those of you mamas with little ones or planning to formula feed, the dispenser is perfect for us all! The dispenser provides cold, warm or hot drinking water with the warm option supplying water at 98.6-104o Fahrenheit, it is specially designed for mixing baby formula. This dispenser gives everyone access to safe, great-tasting Primo® water as it will grow with a family’s needs even beyond baby bottles with the icy cold and hot water options. But don’t worry, the piping-hot water has a child-resistant safety feature so you don’t need to worry about those little ones getting hurt. You can quickly get to drinking your water because the setup takes only minutes! No tools, no plumbing or crazy installation required.

If you’re wondering what is special about Primo water? Well…Primo water has gone through a multi-step purification process that eliminates any harmful substances to ensure you’re drinking high quality, safe water that you can trust. This is especially important because for the first time parents now have great tasting drinking water and baby formula ready water combine with their Primo First Steps Bottom-Loading Water Dispenser.

3.Watch What You Eat

Our bodies truly are our temples. During pregnancy so much focus is put on nutrition for the sake of the baby, but you need to remember good nutrition is VERY important for you too. Feeding your body throughout the day will prevent things such as headaches, fatigue, and nausea. In the case of gestational diabetes spreading your carbs throughout the day and balancing them well with proteins, fats, and veggies is a great way to keep that GD at bay.

4.Be Active

Sound like it is counteracting the whole resting thing? It doesn’t have to. Of course never start a workout regimen without prior approval from your doctor! My doctor recommended I do 30 mins of low level exercise-a brisk walk he said. Something small and low impact to help get my heart rate elevated. I either go on a walk or find myself a good prenatal yoga class to follow along with. It provides me with just the right amount of energy

5.Stay Positive

My husband is always telling me “The brain is the most powerful thing there is”, and he is right. We have the ability to make ourselves relax, become upset, be happy, whatever we want. It takes us thinking about something to make it a reality. So stay positive. Meditate if you wish to, journal maybe, whatever your way of staying positive consists of- DO IT!
