Let’s talk about staying healthy during pregnancy. Of course it is something we all want to do but sometimes with busy lifestyles it feels like the impossible. With Zoey I had a smooth pregnancy, with Lia I developed Gestational Diabetes, and with the twins I am at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes AND preeclampsia. But did you know that there are ways to keep healthy and reduce the risks of developing these conditions during pregnancy? YES! 1.Get Plenty of Rest

Seems obvious, but I can guarantee it is the hardest of these steps to do. It is especially difficult if you have a busy on-the-go lifestyle. Whether you are a stay-at-home-mom, a work-at-home-mom, or a working mom you have your own challenges making it difficult to just drop what you need to do and put your feet up. BUT- it is SO important to do so. Being pregnant with twins has definitely taught me the importance of getting rest and elevating my feet. Don’t be afraid to pop on a movie and cuddle with your little ones or bring a stool under your desk to keep your feet up. 

2.Drink Water

Did you know that drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day helps lower your risk of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. For me drinking water throughout my day and with my meals has become second nature. It is a healthier lifestyle choice for myself, for my unborn babies, and for the rest of my family as well. 

In our home we make sure to have water stocked up at all times. 3.Watch What You Eat

Our bodies truly are our temples. During pregnancy so much focus is put on nutrition for the sake of the baby, but you need to remember good nutrition is VERY important for you too. In the case of gestational diabetes spreading your carbs throughout the day and balancing them well with proteins, fats, and veggies is a great way to keep that GD at bay.

4.Be Active

Sound like it is counteracting the whole resting thing? It doesn’t have to. Of course never start a workout regimen without prior approval from your doctor! My doctor recommended I do 30 mins of low level exercise-a brisk walk he said. Something small and low impact to help get my heart rate elevated. I either go on a walk or find myself a good prenatal yoga class to follow along with. It provides me with just the right amount of energy

5.Stay Positive

My husband is always telling me “The brain is the most powerful thing there is”, and he is right. We have the ability to make ourselves relax, become upset, be happy, whatever we want. It takes us thinking about something to make it a reality. So stay positive. Meditate if you wish to, journal maybe, whatever your way of staying positive consists of- DO IT!
