Hello Mammas!

A lot of thoughts go into the birth plan for a child. The first question off the bat for us was whether or not to have a repeat C-Section. Zoey, my oldest, began as induced labor & ended in an emergency C-Section due to a rapid drop in her heart rate. When I became pregnant with Lia one thing I really want to do was have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I was so determined that I walked and walked until I went into labor naturally. A short 18 hours later and I had experienced a successful VBAC.

So what are your options with twins? Well if everything is in order you can deliver both vaginally, both c-section, or in some cases on of each. The latter of the 3 is the situation I DID NOT want to be a part of. I figured I would be hurting from both areas of my body and why the heck would I want to recover doubly.

This time around there were a few added factors due to having twins. The first is the biggest factor- two babies you need to make sure are positioned correctly. My boys have tossed and turned and continued to do so all the way through. Some days Lincoln was head down and others he wasn’t, either way it was never consistent and it was never both of them.

We were advised early on that the C-Section would be the less stressful of the choices for both the babies and for me. The thought of not having to go into labor & end up with a C-Section was super appealing to me considering all the discomfort I had already endured. We went ahead and moved forward with a scheduled repeat C-Section.

In an ideal world the boys would have been head down and I would have hoped that Baby B would not flip on me after his brother was delivered. But this is real life & my boys are already making their own rules! The benefit for me has been being aware of what is going to happen. There is no wondering if I would need a section for one or both babies. I know that even if I was to go into labor naturally- the outcome is still the same.

Overall, the decision was pretty much made for us by the boys and their positions and for now we sit and wait for either labor to start or my scheduled day to come- either way I am getting super anxious and ready!

Did you opt for a repeat c-section or vbac with your births?
