Thank you Honey Bunches of Oats® Frosted Cereal for sponsoring this post. Now available at major retailers nationwide!

Everyone always says “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” and I couldn’t agree more. For me, however, it stems beyond the nutritional component of the meal- it’s about the start of a day. Breakfast is the first meal you can have with your kids and it’s the first opportunity of the day to talk with them and get their day started off right. Sitting down for breakfast talks has become one of my favorite things. Every morning, I wake up hours before my kids just so that by the time breakfast hits, I am able to give them my full attention. I served my daughter a bowl of the new Honey Bunches of Oats® Frosted Cereal and we are ready to start the day!

Why is talking important?
I start my mornings with positivity; a gratitude journal, some meditation, followed by a prayer, and journaling. All this in efforts to get my day started on a positive note. Our kids are no different than us; they too are humans who have bad days, worry about school, and just need to talk. As a parent, I wish to give them those talks, listen, and provide them with some positive affirmations to start their days.

How do we do it?
Well what better way to nonchalantly and naturally start a conversation than over a bowl of cereal? Grab a bowl, a box of Honey Bunches of Oats Frosted Cereal, and let’s get to talking. My daughter and I get to munching on the new sweet frosty layer covering Honey Bunches of Oats flakes paired with crunchy granola bunches, and the morning just gets off to a great start.
My family is no stranger to Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, a brand known for delicious cereal mixes that appeal to all of us! This is so important because keeping things consistent, familiar, and tasty are key ways to keep the conversations going. It all starts with a “How did you sleep,” and with every bite of Honey Bunches of Oats Frosted Cereal, my daughter just talks and talks.
I love this time with her. Not only do we get to enjoy a tasty bowl of cereal together, but I get to see what is going through her mind and the way things are going without the pressure of a “talk.” Having these conversations over breakfast seems so natural and her demeanor says it all. She is too busy enjoying her cereal to realize she is spilling her guts out to me.

What impact has it had?
I can just see it in her body language, after we are done having what seems like an impromptu conversation, she is more relaxed. Not to mention, toward the end of our talks, I share some positive affirmations for her to repeat after me- all of which fill her up with positive vibes and smiles.
As a mother of four (including twin babies), it can often seem like my life is too busy to talk to my oldest. The three little ones need so much of me that to give my oldest this time to just vent and bond is just perfect. Plus…we cannot get enough of Honey Bunches of Oats Frosted cereal!
