I can’t believe I have TWO-YEAR-OLD TWINS! The days sure feel long but the years are flying by. You guys know we love everything Disney & the birthday boys have been OBSESSED with Monsters Inc! It was a no-brainer to throw them a Monsters Inc themed birthday celebration! Super cute, fun & simple- you want to check out my Monsters Inc Birthday Party Ideas.
We were so happy to be able to celebrate our boys’ birthday with our family this year. Now, with a middle of July birthday- we HAD to include some sort of water activity to help us with the 100-degree weather. On top of the cute Monsters Inc theme, we turned our backyard into a kid’s water park. I am talking 2 pools, 1 giant splash pad & 2 water tables. It made the planning that much easier to have the main activity of the day planned! Now, let’s dive into the details.

Monsters Inc Birthday Party Ideas
Cakes!
Two kids mean two cakes! I ordered individual cakes for the boys this time around. I have been using Baked By Angel for the second year now and she never disappoints. Her cakes and cookies are delicious! My favorite part is giving her creative freedom with the boys Monsters Inc cakes.
I purchased the cake toppers off Etsy & just asked for the specific colors! HOW CUTE ARE THEY?!?!? Super cute, simple & a way I cut costs is to pair individual cakes for the birthday boys/girls & add on cupcakes!

Cupcakes!
For a while now I have opted for smaller cakes for celebrations and cupcakes to pass out to my guests. This helps me cut costs because CAKES ARE EXPENSIVE and most importantly cut down on the work I have to do. A big cake= having to cut the cake. Cupcakes= passing them out! So much faster & kids love them just the same!

Decorations
My favorite of my birthday party ideas is always decor! I love DIY as much as I can & putting together unique and personalized pieces is my favorite. HOWEVER, as much as I love to DIY I have gotten better at keeping things detailed but simple.
My biggest tip & idea is to focus on one general area and really decorate that. For me, it was the ledge in my patio. I used this area as the focal point for my party. I made a quick personalized birthday banner and added additional Monsters Inc touches with the Monsters Inc blue hats & Mike and Sully glasses sent by our friends at Sunstaches!
To keep things simple I purchased blue and green table cloths and added a Scarers Welcome sign to our side entrance. In addition, adding snacks as a centerpiece is a favorite of mine! An edible centerpiece is always a plus in my books.

Party Favors
The party favors are what I spend most of my time on. I remember how much I loved party favors as a child and want to bring that same level of joy. HOWEVER, I also keep them simple.
Our friends at Sunstaches sent us adorable Mike & Sully Sunstaches! They are a HUGE hit with our little guests and so versatile. They make a great substitute for masks for our little ones for Halloween & are just so much fun! We have a whole bin with so many of our favorite characters and always made it with us on our Disneyland trips!
On a run to Michaels I got lucky and found packs of 6 bubbles for $1.50 & chalk pieces for $0.15! Talk about a steal! Because what’s a goodie bag without something sweet, I added a themed frosted cookie in each goodie bag!
If you guys follow me on Instagram you may have seen my Monsters Inc DIY Hats with stickers made with my Cricut. These were a key part of our theme and a signature icon for Monsters Inc.

Food
Keep food simple and ready to serve. I highly recommend anything in crockpots so less tending is needed. The dining room table was transformed into a table with a few charcuterie boards and snacks.
As for the main dish, I recommend something easy and crowd-pleasing like our french fry bar! You can catch a tutorial HERE.

Entertainment
If throwing a celebration in the Summer, BRING OUT ALL THE WATER TOYS! Fill your yard with small child pools, water tables, & slip and slides! This will keep your guests having fun & keep them cool too!

BUT! Don’t forget to get the piñata ready! Being Mexican, a piñata…or two is a MUST!
MOST IMPORTANTLY HAVE FUN! Celebrations with kids so young are mostly for us, the parents!
