Being a preteen parent can be challenging. One of the greatest challenges is their ever-changing taste in just about everything. My challenge this year was figuring out how to throw a birthday party for a tween! And I think I pretty much nailed it!

My preteen opted for a more intimate celebration this year. However, as her mom my goal is always to make it as special as I can. With the help of Unique Industries I was able to pull off the perfect birthday party. The birthday decorations I went with are the Favorite Things theme and it really is all her favorite things!
How To Plan a Birthday Party for a Tween
Talk to Them
My first tip for how to plan a birthday party for a tween is to talk to them! Ask them questions and take their feelings into consideration when it comes to how they want to celebrate. My daughter Zoey wanted to celebrate it with just family and only requested red velvet cake.
Entering the tween and teen years is all about communication and celebrations like these are no different. I made sure to ask who she wanted to celebrate and how, and do the best I could to honor that.

Choose a Theme They Like
When choosing a theme I knew wanted something fun like her, Unique Industries Favorite Things theme had roller blades, donuts, llamas, etc- ALL HER FAVORITES! Once the theme was chosen we were in for a smooth ride!
Find An Activity They Like
I am realizing the older she gets, the trickiest parties become. When 5 years ago I could get away with inflatable pools, now my 12 yr old is into different things. Luckily for me- tie-dye is always a win in her eyes!
I stocked up on white shirts in the sizes of our family members and got some cute scrunchies too, a tie-dye kit & we were ready to go! It was such a huge hit and a great party favor addition for our guests!
Have Fun
Don’t forget to have fun with it all! The Favorite Things theme was so bright, colorful, and full of fun things! The party was absolutely perfect!
